FAQs - booking Crete flights

  • Which is the most convenient airport in Scotland to book a flight to Crete from?

Flights to Crete from Scotland depart from Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) and Glasgow International Airport (GLA). If you prefer a direct flight to Crete and more airline options, Edinburgh International will be the best airport for you. Glasgow International Airport is less busy, but do keep in mind that you'll have fewer options here when it comes to airlines. Flying out of Glasgow might also mean you'll have at least one stopover.

  • Is it possible to book a direct flight to Crete from Cardiff?

The only direct flights to Crete from Cardiff Airport (CWL) are operated by a charter airline, which flies seasonally to Heraklion Airport. However, it is possible to book a flight with only one stopover on KAYAK. One of the shortest routes will involve a stopover in Edinburgh: a flight there from Cardiff takes about 1h, and then you will have around 5h of flying from Edinburgh to Crete.

  • Do all the airports in London offer direct flights to Crete?

You can find flights to Crete from London flying out of London Stansted Airport (STN), London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and London Luton Airport (LTN), however London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is the only airport with direct flights to Crete, serving both airports on the island. If you prefer to fly out from one of the other London airports, account for at least one stopover.

  • I’m staying in Chania in Crete. Which is the best airport to fly into?

The closest airport is Chania International Airport (8.4 mi from the city centre), but not as many airlines fly here from the UK. If you choose Heraklion Airport instead, it’s about a 2h drive to Chania city centre.

  • Flights to Crete land at one of the two main airports on the Greek Island. These are Chania International Airport (CHQ), on the west side of the island, and Heraklion International Airport (HER), which is closer to the east side and serves the most populated region of Crete.
  • Both airports are served by flights to Crete, which are mainly seasonal and mostly from cities in England including London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and Bristol. In addition to direct flights from England, Heraklion International Airport is also served by seasonal flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland and Belfast in Northern Ireland, which are operated by low-cost airlines Jet2 and easyJet.
  • If you can fly to any airport on the Greek island from your city in the United Kingdom, when booking your flight to Crete you might like to keep in mind that Heraklion Airport is the most centrally located airport, but also the busiest.
  • Thanks to its climate, Crete is a great destination all year long whether you’re travelling for the beaches in the summer or the skiing in the winter. But be aware that some events attract a lot of tourists to Crete, such as the Pierra Creta ski mountaineering event in March and the Cretan Wine Festival in July, meaning that the airports may be considerably busier (and queues longer) at these times.
  • If your favourite low-cost airline is Ryanair, keep in mind that flights to Crete from the United Kingdom operated by this airline will land at Chania International Airport. If you will be spending your holiday in Heraklion or the east of the island, you may like to consider flying with a different airline or be prepared to travel at least 2h by road to reach your final destination.

A good flight with friendly crew and check-in but disembarking was chaotic and badly managed

The food was nice but same pud and crackers as on the way there should be different

Flights were on time, boarding was straight forward. Very good attentive staf

Delays on both journeys - only found out before geting to the airport as had created trip within Kayak.

Late again to leave and late to arrive. Seats are too hard.

Despite delay due to weather ,flight was a pleasure and in particular the staff who worked their tails off because of the delay

Jet2 fab as always. Despite the shambolic airport process to get us to the plane (nothing to do with Jet2) and the time that set us back, all the crew were superb in getting us on our way once boarded.

Everything from check in to the flight was great. Helpful staff. Immaculate planes. There is nothing I would change

Staff were excellent but space wasn’t the best, seats were cramped and windows had no blinds.

There is nothing I can think.of that jet2 need to improve They offer a great package. Very efficient

Not happy with price of luggage or that we had no choice but to pay whether cabin or hold. I didn't book seats but this is unnecessary extra money along with suitcase

We accidentally purchased twice the bags we needed. Our fault, but the ticket was not clear to us, and it asked us to purchase bags at checkin. When we notified them to get credit back at the airport, they said to contact customer service. We flew the flight and then contracted customer service. They said no credits after the flight has flown. Not customer service oriented at all. They know we didn’t check that many bags and kept our money for a service they did not provide. Be aware and very careful of what you are purchasing from them because they will not make it right if there is an error.

sadly in Basel & Naples- no jetway we had to climb up and down stairs with our max size carry-on luggage, which was not fun!!!

This was our first time using them. I gave okay ratings for food and entertainment because it was minimal or not provided so I couldn't judge, but much better than most budget carriers we have ever used.

We were charged a ridiculous amount for a name spelling error on ticket which I would’ve corrected if I received pre-check info more than 1/2hr before flight. Then we were told at ticket counter that our bags were fine for boarding but then we’re charged another ridiculous amount to take in our luggage despite being told differently. Flight itself was great. Charges were unfair.

Apart from an email about re configuring passenger seating less than 24hrs before flying it was all good.

There were a lot (4 I think) of EasyJet flights leaving Agadir, we arrived two and a half ours before our flight. Very slow to get through the booking in, passport control and security!! We had booked in on line but had to Queue with others who had not to drop our bags off!,

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

It's not the staff's fault. The cabin crew do their best but the setup in Stansted Airport by Ryanair is poor. The herding of people like cattle is unacceptable before boarding and is something that's in every airport but only in Stansted have I seen the queueing of passengers outside the plane on the tarmac and the crew only turning up with maybe 5 minutes to depart. This is a resource issue . Yes prices are good but seemingly comes with a price of poor treatment of customers. I'll pay more next time

On time arrival but the aircraft had seen better days and needed a deep clean.

It was appalling, full of young people who were drunk and disobeying instructions to sit down. Crew did nothing to enforce. There was a Ryanair pilot sitting in the aisle opposite me who talked through out the safety briefing so loudly I couldn’t hear. Whole thing felt unsafe

Delayed for 2 hours lack of communication no refreshments as promised and the drinks on board were not as ordered and refused to refund

Straight forward checking as long as you have completed every single detail online, prior to checking day. Efficient boarding, seating is ok for a two hour flight. Fulfilledour travel requirements from Manchester to Marseille.

The worst flight ever. Sitting in plane for 4 hours delay and then they change crew. No water or food offered to any passengers including children in that time. Only 2 toilets out of 3 operating for flight with 200 passengers. Only enough food available for about 7 rows of seats depending where you sat you might be lucky. Cabin crew very unfriendly.

I couldn’t understand the aircraft tannoy announcements I was in seat 20C - nobody in our row could either. Speakers a bit too quiet plus messages read out too fast. Otherwise excellent flight. (Flight delayed by 50 mins)

Unnecessarily delayed and remarkably inefficient boarding contributed to a significantly delayed departure. Seats/legroom astonishingly uncomfortable even by Ryanair standards (minimal legroom plus reinforced plastic seat backs ensure you get punched hard in the knees every time the person in front moves, and as a 6-foot passenger I had nowhere else to put my legs. Upon late arrival at the gate in Luton we were kept waiting another 20 minutes before being allowed off the plane. Both Easyjet and Wizzair are currently a better bet.

I bought my flight, insurance etc early and paid over £200. But had i waited until closer the time the price was much cheaper, i appreciate that it could've been more expensive but it wasn't. A better discount for booking early would be better than your current one

The flight arrived within 15 minutes of schedule. We hate the cattle-like boarding process seen often in Europe. After your boarding pass is checked by the airline staff, you wait standing up in an area with no seating for several minutes.

The on flight entertainment system touch screen system and the USB charger did not work on multiple seats on least 4 seats an in different rows. The attendant tried to reset the system but was un successful. I couldn't change my phone to get my ticket for my next flight. This was an international flight I changed seats and the problem was the same. the flight attendant offered his power bank

We never made it onto this flight due to BA's lackluster organisation.

The air hostess were good, cheerful, but I didn't like the boarding. My son and I initially bought our flight tickets, making sure it included 1 luggage and a carry on. Tickets were purchased for British airlines, but we were merged with American Airlines. At checking in our languages, we were told, we don't have luggage prepaid so we had to pay extra $125 each and almost £60 on our way back. I think that's unfair.

Economy seats are so small and compacted so close together that comfort is negatively affected, especially on long flights. However that is due to aircraft design, not anything the airline can do about it.

Terrible, We experienced massive delays and then couldn’t book a hotel through the link provided, nothing was available. We then went to the airport the next day and experienced further delays, almost no communication was given. We had dinner at lunchtime and breakfast at midnight. We then landed in Jhb at 1am and had to book another hotel as our flight to durban was at 8am. The experience was painful and very expensive.

Flight was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation. No viable alternative offered and zero customer service support. Totally useless.

Experience with British Airways was hopeless and the response from ground staff after flight cancellation was hopeless

3/4 bags delayed and 1/4 damaged at the other end. Flight was freezing

On time. Clean. Efficient. Just what is required for the short hop.

this was a good experience from on time boarding and take off to early arrival. Comfortable seats became empty seat next to me.

The 737-8 is too small for the length of flight especially if there are any delays

The flight was delayed over 2 hours, we should off left the plane2 late passengers as it’s not fair on everyone who’s followed the rules.

Dreamliner. Yes great if maintained. I didn't see anyones screen work consistently during either of our flights. Worse was their ability to not only dump you out of premium but separate couples and seat someone's carer at the opposite end of the aircraft. This poor gentleman had no hand so his partner who assists him, being seated at the other end of the aircraft, well that really showed us all what Tui think :( It was fairly dire all in all, they advertise all the perks of the dreamliner only in reality you don't have the features and they change the windows and colours to suit their constant sales pitches. Ironically they were so low on stock for the return flight that all their sales pitches were a waste of time! Their contract only favours them and 'operational changes' well they cover every excuse and Tui use it. Surprisingly we haven't reinstalled the Tui app or booked with them since. It's a shame as I rated them highly during the pandemic.

One flight attendant not wearing a mask over nose, 50% of passengers not either, and no effort to correct. Boarding was very late with no information - lots of standing around waiting.
